Quick answer
To extend a Las Vegas hotel stay, contact the hotel before the current departure time and ask about the exact additional nights, room category and complete cost. The original rate may not apply, and a second reservation does not by itself confirm that you can remain in the same room. Obtain the revised departure details, check key access and review the updated account.
This guide explains a practical reservation process using official hotel booking and request information checked in October 2026. It does not promise availability, a particular rate or a universal modification policy.
Extending the reservation is different from late checkout
An extra night changes the accommodation dates. Late checkout changes the time you leave on the existing departure day. Decide which you need before asking the desk, especially when the extra time extends beyond a few hours.
If you only need a later departure on the same date, read our early check-in and late-checkout guide. If you need another night, ask for that night’s room availability and complete price rather than assuming a late-checkout charge purchases overnight accommodation.
Start early enough for staff to assess the request. Remaining in a room after the scheduled departure time without an agreed arrangement is not a confirmed extension. Keep the existing departure plan until you have a clear answer.

Ask about the dates and the exact room product
Give the hotel the current reservation reference and the additional nights you want. State any essential beds, accessibility features or connecting-room arrangement. Those details can affect whether an offered extension is suitable.
A useful request is: “Can this reservation be extended through this date, in this category, for the same party? What is the complete additional cost, and can we remain in the current room?”
| Detail | What to obtain |
|---|---|
| New departure date | Written confirmation in local hotel dates |
| Room category | The product reserved for the additional nights |
| Same-room request | Whether continuity is confirmed or only requested |
| Total additional cost | Mandatory charges and tax treatment |
| Cancellation terms | Conditions for the changed or new nights |
| Payment | Amount due and any updated authorization |
The hotel may have a different rate or category available for the additional period. Do not interpret your current occupancy as proof that the same accommodation is available indefinitely.

Compare an amendment with a separate reservation
An extension can be handled as an amendment or as a new booking, depending on the provider and offer. Ask which process applies. A reservation made through another company may require that provider’s involvement, while a separate direct booking may have its own terms.
Read the actual instructions attached to your original reservation. Do not cancel an existing stay while trying to secure an unconfirmed replacement. Our booking-channel guide explains why price and the ability to manage a reservation belong in the same comparison.
Keep each confirmation reference when there are two bookings. Ask staff to note that they form a continuous stay and explain whether checkout and re-registration are required. A note linking reservations is useful coordination, rather than proof of a guaranteed same-room assignment.
Same hotel does not always mean the same room
The additional booking may use a different category, bed type or operator. A privately managed suite in the same building may not be handled by the hotel’s front desk. Check both the room product and the person responsible for arranging continuity.
For an essential room feature, obtain confirmation before accepting the extra nights. Vdara’s FAQ, for example, says room-location requests are subject to availability. Treat a preference note differently from a confirmed accommodation feature.
If a move is required, ask about the time, luggage assistance and access between rooms. Decide whether the transition is acceptable before paying for a restricted offer. Our managed-versus-private guide is particularly useful when comparing listings in suite towers.

Price the new nights separately
An additional Friday or event night can have a different price from the original weekday stay. Compare the actual quote, rather than multiplying an old nightly average by the number of extra nights.
Record the complete amount and identify any mandatory fee already included. If the original stay involved a package, ask whether credits, breakfast or other benefits continue on the new nights. A room extension does not automatically extend every benefit of a different offer.
For a longer revised stay, compare whether a kitchen, laundry or a different neighborhood would improve the routine. Read extended-stay hotels before assuming the easiest room extension is also the best purchase. Include any moving cost and inconvenience in that decision.
Keys, parking and the hotel account
After the change is confirmed, ask whether physical keys or digital access need updating. Check access before leaving for a late evening, rather than discovering at the door that the original departure time is still associated with the key.
Also ask about parking access, room-charge privileges and the account used for incidentals. A separate reservation can require its own registration or payment step. Do not assume that all services carry forward simply because you remain in the same room.
Review the revised folio and distinguish charges from card authorizations. Our hotel-deposit guide and checkout-account guide explain those separate checks. Keep both confirmations if the stay has more than one booking reference.
When moving is the more sensible option
An extension is convenient when the room, location and additional cost still fit. A move may be worth considering when the only available category fails the party’s sleeping needs or the new nightly total is substantially higher than a suitable alternative.
Compare complete costs and confirmed availability before committing to the move. Include luggage handling, travel and the period before the next room is ready. A lower new-room quote is less helpful if the transition disrupts an important appointment or event.
Use where to stay in Las Vegas if the additional nights have a different purpose from the original visit. A second part of the trip can justify a different base, but only after the alternative has been confirmed.
Prices vary according to travel dates and availability.
FAQ
Will the hotel extend my original nightly rate?
Do not assume so. Obtain a quote for the additional dates and compare its complete cost and conditions.
Can I stay in the same room with two reservations?
Ask the hotel to assess and confirm continuity. Separate bookings or a linking note alone do not establish a guaranteed room assignment.
Is an extra night the same as late checkout?
No. They are different arrangements with different dates, times and potential charges.
